Managing Partners

Primaira, LLC is owned and managed by Phil Carbone and Karen Benedek who have over 50 years of combined experience providing product development and technical consulting services to government and commercial clients in the medical, appliance, and consumer product industries.

Karen Benedek advises companies and government agencies on strategic, market, and technology issues related to new product development. Her experience is in the application of advanced technologies to achieve safety and reliability enhancements, performance improvement, environmental benefits, and energy-use reduction. She focuses on the front end of product development, including product definition, Intellectual Property creation and protection, and program planning. A mechanical engineer with technical background in the thermo-sciences, her 25 years of experience include a wide range of programs in research, product development, and business-driven-technology assessment. Prior to founding Primaira, LLC, Ms. Benedek was Vice President of Technology and Innovation at Arthur D. Little, Inc, a global management and technology consulting company. Ms. Benedek has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University and an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Phil Carbone leads multi-disciplinary teams in the development and commercialization of electro-mechanical and thermo-mechanical products, including consumer and commercial appliances, power generation equipment, and medical products. His 20 patents illustrate the creativity and utility he brings to new product development. In the last 8 years he has brought a dozen products from a clean sheet of paper to market. He has developed entire new product lines and product platforms for high value, mid-volume companies such as Sub Zero, Viking Range, and Thermador. Mr. Carbone specializes in designing products for manufacturability in order to ensure a smooth transition from prototype to manufacturing implementation. In addition to his product development experience, Mr. Carbone has conducted a variety of programs in third-party evaluations, reliability analyses, failure analyses and market strategy. Mr. Carbone was Director of Appliance and Building Technologies at Arthur D. Little, Inc, a global management and technology consulting company. He has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Wentworth Institute of Technology.
